Silas Deane is the President and CEO of VendEngine, Inc.  Based in Nashville, TN, VendEngine is a cloud-based software company focused on the corrections marketplace. Founded in 2013, the company services over 170 county jails and correctional facilities throughout the U.S., the Caribbean and Central America.   VendEngine, which prides itself as a true market disruptor, provides software and technology solutions that are unique and new to the corrections space, offering everything from point-of-sale systems, warehousing modules and inmate communication solutions, the company is leading technology innovation in an oft-forgotten market. The company has been recognized by multiple publications as a true innovation leader.

Deane began his career working as an aide to then-Senator and later Vice President Al Gore in Washington, DC, where he held many various roles in the Senate and White House.  Deane also worked as an aide in the U.S. House of Representatives for a number of years before becoming the Executive Director of the International Microelectronics Society in Washington, DC.  Deane later worked as the Sr. Vice President of the National Foundation for Cancer Research in Bethesda, MD.  Deane moved to Nashville in 1999, where he continues to be recognized as a leading entrepreneur.  He has built and sold a number of successful business ventures including PR & Marketing firm, Logic Media Group, a leading southern-based technology marketing and branding agency;  PRSource.com; Deane, Smith & Partners; and Baden Bath & Supply, a hotel and home fixtures company that had partnered with Overstock.com.

Deane holds a Master’s degree from the University of Pennsylvania, a second Master’s Degree from Johns Hopkins University and a Bachelor’s degree in Economics from the University of Kentucky.  Deane is on the Executive Board of Directors for the Nashville Technology Council, Past Chairman of the Nashville State Community College Board of Directors, and currently chairs the University of Pennsylvania Alumni Chapter in Tennessee and is actively involved in leadership positions within his church and community.  Deane and his wife, Angela, have three children and live in Brentwood, TN.
