12 Dec Top 25 Pick Rates: November 2019
We’ve had several customers ask how the same company can have several spots in our Top 25 pick rates each month. It’s a fair question and one that I think we should answer. (Plus, it’s nice to know that someone is actually reading the content and looking at the pick rates!)
Selecta is a European-based company that has several branches in multiple countries. The labor laws in Europe are very different than the US. They restrict how long trucks can be on the road, when drivers can make deliveries and even how long employees can be in a warehouse. They have very tight windows of opportunity to get orders pre-kitted and loaded on trucks or it just doesn’t get delivered.
In some of their branches, they run separate lines to manage each vertical in which they operate. They may have 3 FastTrack licenses in the same building. And because of their very limited window of time, they will put a ton of people on the line to get the pre-kitting finished. We do not have any visibility into this, and therefore can only publish the pick rate.
Ultimately each line gets treated like a separate branch. And because of the limited time and higher number of employees picking simultaneously, their overall pick rates are extremely high.

*The pick rates published here are determined by dividing the total number of pieces picked for the month by the total amount of time a customer was logged into LightSpeed. We measure two types of time – active and idle time. The two numbers added together make up Clock Time (or Total Time).
There are several things that we cannot see in measuring these pick rates. The biggest one is the number of employees being used during active picking. A company with 10 people on their line is going to pick faster than a company with 3 people on their line.
Total Clock PPH is the most accurate way to measure total warehouse efficiency if you’re going to use one metric. It does combines active and idle time but there are legitimate reasons for idle time – stocking shelves, emptying trash, breaking down cardboard, cleaning the bathroom, putting up an incoming vendor order and the list goes on.
